There is a common misconception in the country where I live that people "love poisoning animals" and they don't care about them. I am finding this to be untrue so far. My village has the most poisonings reported by my local vet but I'm finding out that I live in the kindest village with the kindest people. My neighbours offer me cake, tea, coffee, eggs, lovely conversation in English and the native language as I walk around with petitions from door to door!
15 streets in my village have now signed in agreement to end the poisonings here. Everyone asked so far has signed. Only one house declined - they were English. They used to be farmers and said they used poison themselves to kill rats and "would prefer that dogs were shot" and seemed to have no love for animals at all. They said "that's just how things are here" but as mentioned, I am finding out that everyone else so far doesn't actually want this to be the way. More streets will be asked to sign in the coming weeks.
My local vet has also added a petition for people to sign and posters will also be added to their windows soon. I will be continuing to contact more local vets to spread awareness about what's happening and what we can do to help protect our pets and animals.
If you would like to start a petition in your local area, please contact me for a copy you can circulate there.
Thank you for reading.
