Stop the Planned Movie Night at Greenlawn Cemetery

The Issue

My family, and many others, rests peacefully in the soil of Greenlawn Cemetery. We chose this place of tranquillity, respect, and dignity for our loved ones' final resting place, investing substantially in the assurance that they would be given the reverence they deserve in their eternal rest. The planned "movie night" at Greenlawn Cemetery is an affront to that commitment. It is disrespectful and disgraceful, transforming a sacred space for mourning into an unseemly entertainment venue. Greenlawn Cemetery is not a drive-in theatre, nor a place for those seeking a cheap thrill in the name of being "cool or spooky". It is a place for calm, reflection and tribute to those who have passed on. And it is a place that deserves respect.

There are significant logistical issues as well. The lack of adequate parking raises safety concerns, and the presence of vendors could lead to litter and a disruptive atmosphere. Additionally, attendees walking over gravestones not only risks damage to these memorials but also undermines the dignity of the site.

While community gatherings can be enjoyable, hosting a movie night in a cemetery is, in my opinion, both disrespectful and inappropriate. This event trivializes the sanctity of the resting place for many individuals and their loved ones.

Greenlawn Cemetery is a place of remembrance and reflection, not a venue for entertainment. I urge you to consider the implications of such an event and sign this petition.

We call upon the relevant authorities and organizers to rethink their decision regarding the movie night at Greenlawn Cemetery, and we urge them to consider the spiritual and emotional significance of this place for mourning families and respectful visitors. Please, sign this petition to protect the dignity and serenity of Greenlawn Cemetery.
