The proponents of a paved Minnesota Valley State Trail first wanted us all to believe it was "fully funded" with the $2.17 million that was originally set aside. They wanted to believe that it was a a bargain at that....and maybe it would have been....if that was really an honest representation of the funding need. It's not. Since the new legislative session that started last week there have been three bills submitted totaling nearly $7.5 million MORE. We're still not sure what "fully funded" means in political speak, but it sure seems like someone was trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. Our assumption at this point is that nobody on the proponent side wants to really admit what this proposed trail will truly cost so they are attempting to seek out a little bit here and a little bit there...assuming nobody will notice or care. The misrepresentation and misdirection continues. Please write those that represent you in the Minnesota Legislature. Tell them that there should be NO additional funding approved until there is one all encompassing plan that shows the total cost to build the entire proposed paved Minnesota Valley State Trail and a fully-funded budget to maintain that trail. Let's see what "fully funded" looks like in everyday tax payer speak. http://www.gis.leg.mn/OpenLayers/districts/ Only YOU can stop this! #savetheriverbottoms
