Stop the plan to open up Junction Road North for buses

The Issue

Hampshire County Council plans to use £1 million of taxpayers money to open up the northern end of Junction Road, Totton, to allow buses to access Commercial Road directly.

Currently, buses use Maynard Road to access Ringwood road and Commercial road. This is safer because it is less likely a stationary bus will cause vehicles behind to get stuck between the train gates.

Buses, having to stop to to right into Junction road, create a hazard that doesn't arise now. There are also a number of other disadvantages, including the impact on residents and businesses and school in Junction road, the loss of the very popular bus stop nearest to the Asda front entrance and risks associated with allowing buses to emerge from and into a junction where pedestrians are currently free to walk.

The work will take 5 months, involving congestion in the town centre. There is almost no local support for the scheme. It seems a complete waste of money.
