Stop the placement of data centers in JDC
The Issue
I grew up in Jefferson Davis County, and its natural beauty, rich history, and close-knit community have always made it feel like home. But now, our home is under threat. Plans to establish expansive data centers within our county have surfaced, and they promise to change our environment, and not for the better.
Data centers require vast amounts of water for cooling and emit significant amounts of heat and noise. The introduction of such facilities could significantly alter JDC’s delicate ecosystem. Our agriculture could suffer, and our local wildlife could be disrupted. The very essence of our community could be lost amid the constant hum of machinery and increased traffic on our quaint roads.
Consider also the environmental impact. A report by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory indicated that data centers are responsible for about 2% of global energy consumption, and their carbon footprint is sizable. By allowing these centers to operate here, we risk contributing further to environmental degradation.
Our residents have not been adequately consulted about this major change, and every concerned local deserves to have a say in decisions that will impact their lives and environment. We must prioritize sustainable development and seek alternatives that respect our community's desires and the integrity of our environment.
Join us in urging our local government to reconsider the placement of these data centers and to explore more sustainable and community-conscious solutions. Sign this petition to voice your opposition to the installation of data centers in JDC and help protect our cherished way of life.
