Stop the persecution of motorhomers in the UK
The Issue
Having been a dedicated motorhomer for over 35 years, I have witnessed a profound shift in attitudes and regulations towards individuals like myself who cherish the freedom to travel throughout the UK in a motorhome. Motorhoming offers a unique and enriching experience, allowing people like me to explore beautiful landscapes, discover hidden gems, and connect with diverse communities, all from the comfort of a fully self-contained vehicle.
However, recent changes in regulations and attitudes have increasingly positioned motorhomers as a problem, rather than a legitimate and environmentally friendly mode of tourism. We are often unfairly targeted, facing restrictive parking rules, biased perceptions, and even hostility in certain communities. This is in stark contrast to other forms of travel, such as staying in hotels or using caravans, which do not face the same level of scrutiny.
Motorhoming is an established form of tourism, bringing significant economic benefits to local communities. According to the UK Caravan and Camping Alliance, the sector is worth around £9.3 billion annually and supports jobs across the UK. By marginalizing motorhomers, not only is the joy of our lifestyle at risk, but the local economies that benefit from our travels are also adversely affected.
It's imperative that we advocate for fair treatment, inclusive policies, and better infrastructure that accommodates motorhomes. Simple solutions such as designated parking areas, reasonable overnight fees, and clear signage can bridge the gap between motorhomers and local communities.
We must come together as a community to challenge misconceptions and wear down the barriers being placed upon us. Let's prove that motorhomers are respectful travellers contributing to the vibrancy of the UK.
Sign this petition to urge local councils and policymakers across the UK to reconsider policies and attitudes towards motorhomers, ensuring that we can continue to enjoy our way of life without facing undue prejudice and restrictions. Let’s work towards a harmonious future for all travellers in the UK.
