STOP THE PEKIN AI DATA CENTER
The Issue
Welcome to our City Council Petition Form. This petition is to let the City of Pekin staff know that we DO NOT want an AI Data Center in our community.
From the Harvard Business Review: AI Data Centers have been proven to cause health complications amongst the citizens living near them, "These massive facilities not only strain already stressed power grids but also create air pollution, including fine particulate matter, resulting in significant respiratory-related health consequences that are estimated to cost up to $20 billion per year in the United States by 2028." (Ren & Wierman, HBR, 2025)
AI Data Centers also are projected to account for 6.7% to 12.0% of our nations total electricity consumption by 2028 according to the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. (Arman, et all, LBNL 2024)
According to Forbes, US Data Centers in 2023 consumed around 17 billion gallons of water; a single data center alone can consume 300,000 gallons of water or more in a SINGLE DAY! (Silverstein, Forbes, 2026)
All of these strains on resources are guaranteed to inflate our electricity and water bills as these resources become more scarce- not to mention the health aspect!
By signing this petition, you're voicing your disatisfaction for the Pekin Lutticken AI Data Center and all of the negative consequences that will come along with it. If we may ask, please only sign the petition if you are a resident of Tazewell County or neighboring areas that will be directly impacted so that we can show the city council that its residents do not want to deal with the long list of negative consequences! If our Fulton County neighbors can get theirs stopped, so can we!
