Dear Neighbors and Supporters,
Despite overwhelming public concern, the Maine Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) this morning filed a procedural order allowing the CBITD’s proposed rate increase to take effect 6/21/25. This decision threatens to disproportionately impact island residents and seasonal visitors alike—shifting costs unfairly and without proper public accountability.
The PUC also indicated they are opening a summary investigation to determine whether there are sufficient grounds to open a formal investigation. Rates could be changed or rescinded if the Commission conducts a formal investigation. We are not done fighting.
The Commission is most definitely reviewing and weighing their decisions on the several factors, including the public comments they receive. You previously added your name to our petition. Now, we urgently need you to comment today on the PUC site, even if you did so before.
How to Submit Your Comment:

Comments already submitted make a difference. But the more the PUC hears directly from affected individuals, the more pressure builds to review and reconsider this decision.
Example: “I signed the original petition and now strongly oppose the PUC’s approval of CBITD’s proposed rate structure. The decision is unfair, lacks transparency, and does not reflect the public interest. I cannot afford the new set rate for the General ticket and do not have a need to purchase a 90-day or annual pass to obtain the Passholder discount rate.
Please take just 5 minutes to make your voice heard again. Then, share this with others—friends, neighbors, family—anyone who values fair and affordable access to our island communities.
