Dear Supporters. Good news - the Conservative members of Cheshire West and Chester Council have called for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to discuss the impact of Peak Cluster.
However, whilst we welcome the chance for Peak Cluster to be debated by the Council we feel that the motion put forward does not go far enough.
“Proposed by Councillor Sion Roberts (Willaston and Thornton, Con) and Seconded by Councillor Simon Eardley (Saughall and Mollington, Con), the debate calls to formally oppose the routing of the Peak Cluster pipeline through Cheshire West and Chester and to submit objections to relevant planning and regulatory bodies where safety, environmental or community impacts are substantiated.”
Councillor Roberts is calling for “assurances” regarding “safety, environmental impacts and long-term risks”
They are also demanding “ legally binding emergency-response protocols, regulatory frameworks and long-term monitoring should the project proceed against local observation.”
They also call for “a binding, clear and long-term ‘Community Benefit Fund’ be put in place, should this project proceed, to ensure that areas affected receive adequate mitigation against the negative effects of the introduction of such infrastructure in their locality”.
We want to encourage Cheshire West and Cheshire Council to join forces with Labour led Wirral Council and Reform led Derbyshire County Council who have already voted to completely oppose Peak Cluster.
The pipeline should not be re-routed elsewhere. IT SHOULD NOT BE BUILT ANYWHERE! We have had enough of Peak Clusters vague “assurances” on safety and the environment already. They are meaningless and are just an attempt to placate the public who they do not give a damn about.
We do not need or want a “Community Fund”. Peak Cluster will happily agree to providing a bribe if they think it will help them to get their way. There is a £5billion project at stake, a “community fund” would be small change to them.
We need Chester West and Chester Council to join Wirral and Derbyshire and call for Peak Cluster to be stopped completely. It is not a good use of taxpayers money, it encourages big business and fossil fuel companies to continue polluting as they have always done, there are much better alternatives and the safety and environmental risks are simply to high
There are 70 elected members of Cheshire West and Chester Council, representing the 45 wards that make up the area, as follows
Labour 35
Conservative 21
The Green and Independent Alliance 3
Independent 2
Reform UK 3
Liberal Democrat 1
Unaligned Independent members 5
Please write to the Councillors and call on them to back a motion to call for Peak Cluster to be completely opposed.
