The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the proposed construction of the Palomino Alpha Data Center in Guadalupe County. This massive project threatens to devastate our precious natural resources here in Central Texas. Large data centers, like the one planned, often demand vast amounts of water and electricity, far exceeding our current capacity and putting immense pressure on our local infrastructure.

Currently, Central Texas is grappling with long-term water supply concerns, yet this project proposes to strain these already scarce resources even further. According to the Texas Water Development Board, our region's water demand is projected to increase by 17% by 2060, while our supplies will decrease by 18% if no action is taken. This data center could exacerbate these issues, leading to dire consequences for our environment and community.

Moreover, data centers are known sources of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, further contributing to the environmental degradation of our beloved region. With global warming's impacts becoming more pronounced, building such a facility runs counter to necessary sustainability efforts.

We need to explore more sustainable solutions and consider alternative locations or technologies that will not compromise our environment and quality of life. Our community deserves to preserve its natural resources and ensure that any development aligns with sustainable practices.
