The Issue

Many of us have felt the drastic changes brought upon our communities over the recent years. As an individual living in an area where water scarcity is becoming alarmingly frequent, I am concerned about the way artificial intelligence (AI) is being exploited in resource management.

In our community, AI technologies are extensively used in the management of water resources. This may sound beneficial, but it has proven otherwise. These AI systems are controlling the distribution and allocation of water in ways that do not consider the needs of local populations, leaving many of us struggling to get by with what little we have. The AI algorithms often prioritize economic profits over the sustainable and equitable distribution of this essential resource.

Statistically, the use of AI in resource management has led to a 20% decrease in water availability for small towns and communities while increasing its supply to larger industrial consumers by over 50%. This inequitable distribution exacerbates the already dire situation of water scarcity in many parts of the world. According to the World Health Organization, over 1 billion people lack access to safe water, and mismanagement only deepens this crisis.

There are sustainable alternatives that can be implemented to ensure fair and just water distribution without over-reliance on AI. Community-driven water management, improved infrastructure, and increased transparency are vital in achieving this goal. By employing a balanced approach where technology assists rather than dictates, we can serve the needs of the people equally.

Join me in calling for a more equitable and fair approach to resource management by urging policymakers to reduce the overuse of AI in these critical areas. Let us push for decision-making that integrates human insight and community needs.
