Stop the Overreach: Reinstate the Dean of Arts & Sciences Now

The Issue

We, the undersigned, demand the immediate reinstatement of Professor McCoul (Senior English Lecturer), Mark Zoran (the Dean of Arts & Sciences), and Emily Johansen (the English Department head).

  • No Basis for Removal: Decisions of this magnitude must rest on facts and process, not political pressure or social media outrage.
  • Executive Overreach: A president’s executive order does not override shared governance, academic standards, or the law.
  • Protect Academic Freedom: Universities must be bastions of open inquiry, not battlegrounds for partisan intimidation.
  • Maintain Trust in Higher Education: Students know that course catalog descriptions are brief summaries, not exhaustive contracts. To suggest otherwise ignores the lived reality of higher education, where flexibility, breadth, and evolving knowledge are essential.

This is an attack on higher education itself. Stand with us: sign this petition and demand Texas A&M reverse this reckless and unjust action immediately.
