Our community treasures Snape Park, a cherished green haven amidst the urban sprawl of our constantly expanding city. We all love the park for the respite it provides from the rhythm of city life. Today, Snape Park faces a threat from an overreaching $6.3 million Randwick Council development plan. A private sporting facility designed for the use of only two sporting clubs is planned on this public land.

This project not only benefits a small group at the expense of the majority but it also means the loss of our valuable parkland along with mature and priceless trees. This is a grave issue especially considering the already escalating overdevelopment in our area. Rather than protecting and nurturing green spaces for the benefit of all residents and future generations, we are allowing them to be transformed into indoor training zones for a select few.

The costs, economic and environmental, of this development, will fall squarely on the shoulders of Randwick residents. We will be footing the bill for a facility we do not want nor need. More so, we shall experience the irreversible loss of our precious parkland and the ecological benefits it provides.

This land is our heritage and our legacy, and we should have a say in how it is utilised. This petition is a rallying cry to the residents of Randwick and all who believe in the preservation of public green spaces. Let’s object to this development and protect Snape Park.
