Stop the Overdevelopment of Motorwerks in Barrington, IL

The Issue

Upcoming Village Meeting
Date: Monday, November 25, 2024
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Village Hall

All, we are making progress and YOU are making a difference! We’re almost there but we still NEED you. The next meeting on the November 25th will give you the opportunity to show your dissatisfaction with the Motorwerks expansion. If you cannot make it to the meeting, then please consider writing a letter to the village to make your voice heard.

For many of us who call Barrington our home, Motorwerks proposing the construction of a multi-story parking garage and a daunting 110,000 sq. ft. car showroom has become a cause for concern. Situated directly across our homes, this new development threatens the serenity, safety and value of both our properties and our community.

In addition to the unsightly presence of corporate buildings rather than comfortable residential sights, the increased crime rates that often accompany such developments, increased traffic, and incessant noise are other disadvantages that we stand to face. Our fears are not unfounded; according to a report by the National Association of Realtors, such infrastructural development can lead to a reduction in property values for nearby homeowners by as much as 12%.

Furthermore, the increased traffic from the new dealership may lead to congestion and noise, detrimentally impacting our tranquil neighborhood. A study by the Health Effects Institute has linked vehicular noise to several health problems including cardiovascular disease and stress-related mental health issues.

Considering our shared interests in preserving the charm and tranquility of our beloved community, it is critical that together we prevent this overdevelopment. By signing this petition, we appeal to the Barrington Planning Commission to recognize our collective concerns, placing the welfare and character of our community before corporate development.

Please sign this petition and support the cause to halt the overdevelopment of Motorwerks in our town.
