Save Our Parks Stop the Towers

Save Our Parks Stop the Towers
The Issue
Stop the sale of public parklands to RioCan. The proposed redevelopment of Glenmore Landing will have a devastating effect on the adjacent Reservoir Parklands and surrounding communities.
We are concerned about:
- the disposition of public parklands to RioCan, a$13 billion dollar investment trust, in an exclusive deal
- the impact of a massive and densely populated high rise development immediately adjacent sensitive park and reserve lands
- extreme congestion at 90th Ave SW and 16th St SW as an estimated 3000+ residents and workers have only two points of entrance and only one east-exiting traffic lane for eggress
- the JCC, which uses the same intersection for access, has already been approved by the City for a major expansion including a school, a synagogue, and two high rise seniors' residences
- a severe impact on safety, particularly for mobility impaired residents of several adjacent seniors facilities
- the probability of impeded access and longer wait times for emergency vehicles
- looming towers that will forever change the liveability and character of an entire area
Now is the time to act. The City of Calgary has posted a Public Notice and will accept public input up until October 23, 2023.
We the undersigned request that Calgary City Council block the disposition of public park, recreation or exhibition grounds which lands are part of lands legally described as: PLAN 8311942; BLOCK4, PLAN 8311942; BLOCK 3, Municipally known as 8945 14th ST SW and 1630 90 AVE SW.
These lands are deemed parklands and should not be sold. We request that Calgary City Councillors:
- vote against the disposition of parklands to RioCan
- deny RioCan’s application for a Change in Land Use for the redevelopment of Glenmore Landing including residential towers and an ‘intensified’ commercial development
