“Under the authority of subsection 15(2) of the Ontario SPCA Act, the Society may dispose of the animal(s) WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE if such costs are not paid within five (5) business days of receipt of this letter. Regardless if the animal(s) are disposed of or not you must still remit your payment of this account within thirty (30) days. Please be advised that this is the Statement of Account as of the date above. These costs will continue to accrue. If, for any reason, you are unable to pay this account, or if you wish to discuss the matter further, please get in touch with the Inspector/Agent.”

Once again OSPCA have reached out in their efforts to harass, bully and extort money from the Ashworths of Trout Creek, ON. You can read a full account of the story which is included in a petition posted in August:

The Ashworths have appealed the seizure and a hearing with the Animal Care Review Board is taking place to decide the fate of the animals. The first part of the hearing was heard in early September which outlined the OSPCA evidence.  The final portion of the hearing, when the Ashworths have the opportunity to submit their evidence and witnesses, is scheduled to commence on October 5, 2015.

Without waiting for a decision to be made OSPCA sent a registered letter to the Ashworths this week demanding payment of  $104,746.66, within 5 days or the all the dogs will be disposed of.

While the demand itself is a shock, it certainly raises concerns about why this was done before the hearing had the opportunity to hear both sides. If the dogs are disposed of within 5 days, there is no point to having a hearing.  What is it that the OSPCA do not want the public to know?  This should alarm every one living in Ontario with an animal because it could happen to you. No one can stop the OSPCA. They are a force unto themselves and answer to no one.

This is not the first case of OSPCA tormenting, bullying, harassing and extorting innocent animal owners of Ontario. While they fall under the mandate of the Ministry of the Community Safety  & Correction Services, the present Minister Yasir Naqvi nor Premier Wynne are willing to take responsibility for the actions for this rogue organization or even investigate years of complaints about them.

Please sign and share this petition. Let the Ontario government know the people of Ontario, Canada and other parts of the world will no longer put up with these types of actions. Do not believe the Ontario Liberals can not stop OSPCA if they wanted to. They gave them their power. They can remove it. We want OSPCA dissolved, out of the animal care business and replaced with those who have the care of animals as their priority and not money or power.

*** Since the posting of this petition a hearing with the Animal Care Review Board has taken place and a decision reached. On March 2, the Ashworths were told they can have their dogs back if they pay OSPCA almost $500,000 - Yes this is Canada
