Pakistan has recently inaugurated its first ever donkey meatpacking factory in Gwadar. The establishment of this factory is to cater to China's increasing demand for donkey meat, bones, and skin required for the production of   e-jiao, a traditional Chinese medicine. Yet, we as advocates for animal rights and welfare find this development alarming and unacceptable.

The inherent brutality contained within this industry is a concern not to be overlooked. The videos and reports circulating online regarding the cruel treatment of these innocent creatures are beyond disconcerting. As a nation, we must not succumb to the trade practices that amplify such cruelty – we owe our animals better.

Moreover, being part of such a trade is a clear violation of animal rights and a blemish on our national conscience. It should be noted that we, as a society, are responsible for the welfare of all living beings within our borders.

Our plea is to the government of Pakistan to take immediate steps and cease the operation of the Gwadar donkey meatpacking factory. We call for stronger animal protection laws to restore the dignity and rights of these voiceless creatures. Let us put compassion and humanity above industrial gain.
