Stop the opening of the Microsoft Data Center in Kenosha

Stop the opening of the Microsoft Data Center in Kenosha
The Issue
As a resident of Kenosha, I am deeply concerned about the scheduled opening of the Microsoft AI Data Center in our town early 2026.
AI centers offer lofty promises of the future and progress and employment, but what we can actually expect is:
- A 267% increase in electricity costs for residents who live near data centers, footing the bill for these companies obscene power usage over the past five years across the US but some studies show households near data centers with a 70%+ increase.
- The lowest number of jobs per square foot in their facilities, a small fraction compared to if the land was used for office spaces, a factory or warehouse not to mention lost farmland and ecosystems (Wallstreet Journal)
- 2.8 million gallons of Lake Michigan water drained per year just to cool the equipment at the Mount Pleasant location - the Kenosha location is not zoned for this water usage (zoned for 4,500 currently) but it is an additional Microsoft data center
- Infertility and cancer rates rising!!!! "The datacenter industry has claimed that f-gas that escapes is not a threat because, once in the air, it turns into a compound called Tfa. Tfa is considered a Pfas in most of the world, but not the US. Recent research has found it is more toxic than previously thought, and may impact reproductive systems similar to other Pfas." - The Guardian
We cannot afford to risk our most beautiful and natural resources, the health of our families and children and on top of this, foot the energy bill for corporations' obscene energy use.
We are calling on community members, local government officials, Mayor David F. Bogdala, Aldermans and everyone invested in the welfare of Kenosha to consider the long-term consequences of this development.
Let us come together to protect our town, our environment, and our economic well-being. I urge you to sign this petition to stop the opening of the Microsoft AI Data Center in Kenosha.
It's not too late to fight! At the least, our elected officials should know that the community at large opposes AI data centers in our town and the opening of the Microsoft center (and future centers) will mean going against their community!
*** this is not for the Mount Pleasant location. Please look for community resources on how to get involved for Mount Pleasant
