Hi Neighbors,
We have great news to share! On Monday, February 23rd, the Westport/Waunakee Joint Planning Commission (JPC) voted 5 to 1 to deny the OneEnergy Six Mile Creek Solar application, which proposed a 30-acre, 6-megawatt solar energy facility between Savannah Village and Kennedy Drive. The only vote in support of the application came from Melissa Hunt (Waunakee Appointee).
This is a major victory for our community and a powerful reminder that research, engagement, and perseverance truly make a difference.
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who signed petitions, shared concerns with JPC members, and attended planning meetings, Village Board sessions, and JPC discussions. Your voices mattered and had an impact!
We also want to recognize our JPC members, who courageously made a decision in the best interest of the community despite significant pressure from OneEnergy and members of the Waunakee Village Board and staff. Their commitment to doing what’s right is inspiring.
While this is a huge win, the issue may resurface in the future. For now, however, let’s celebrate this success together and take pride in what we accomplished as a community.
Thank you all for your dedication, energy, and advocacy!
Suzanne
