Stop the Noise Pollution in Brickell: End Excessively Loud Vehicle Noise

Stop the Noise Pollution in Brickell: End Excessively Loud Vehicle Noise
The Issue
Brickell residents are urgently asking the City of Miami, the Commissioners of District 2 and District 3, Code Compliance, the Miami Police Department, and the Downtown Development Authority to address a serious and growing noise and public safety problem in our neighborhood.
We are experiencing constant noise from excessively loud vehicles, explosive popping and backfire sounds, illegal street racing, and reckless driving at all hours. These disruptions happen during the day and also very late at night. Many residents report being woken up repeatedly between 2 AM and 4 AM. Others hear the noise all day while trying to work or rest.
Brickell is one of the most densely populated residential areas in the city, and the current noise levels are making it harder and harder to live here comfortably.
Residents Are Reporting:
• Extremely loud vehicle noise that can be heard inside high-rise buildings
• Engine popping, cracking, and backfire sounds at all hours
• Street racing on major Brickell streets
• Motorcycles and cars doing stunts and riding in large groups
• Frequent daytime disturbances that affect work and mental health
• Infants, pets, and vulnerable residents being startled or woken up
• Little to no lasting enforcement even though people have complained for years
Long-time residents with 10 to 16 years in the neighborhood confirm that this is a recent problem that keeps getting worse. Many believe it is connected to an increase in transient visitors, changes in nightlife hours, and uneven enforcement of existing noise and traffic laws.
We, the undersigned, are asking for immediate action including:
1. Stronger Miami Police Department traffic enforcement
This should happen during the daytime and also during late-night peak hours.
2. Enforcement of existing noise and traffic laws
This includes ticketing vehicles that create excessively loud noise and addressing dangerous driving behavior.
3. Noise-monitoring technology
We want the city to consider noise cameras and other tools that have already worked in nearby cities like Miami Beach.
4. Coordination between District 2 and District 3
Parts of Brickell now fall under both districts, so both offices need to work together.
5. A clear and public action plan
Residents want to understand what will happen next, both in the short term and the long term.
Brickell is a residential community, not an entertainment zone. The current level of noise and reckless driving is affecting sleep, health, productivity, and overall well-being for thousands of people who live here.
We are asking our elected officials and law enforcement to take this issue seriously and put real solutions in place as soon as possible.
Please sign and share this petition to support the Brickell community. We all deserve peace, safety, and the ability to sleep through the night.
