As a nurse, I have witnessed firsthand the detrimental effects of pollution on respiratory health. Clean air and quiet surroundings are essential for our well-being, especially for children, pets, and those who live in close proximity to busy streets. That is why I am starting this petition to address large trucks traveling on 20th St between Pico and Ocean Park.

20th St between Pico and Ocean Park is designated as a "no-truck" route. However, large trucks continue to use these blocks throughout the day, every day, causing excessive noise pollution and releasing harmful emissions into the air we breathe.

Noise pollution not only disrupts our peace of mind but also affects our quality of sleep. Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to high levels of noise can lead to stress-related health issues such as hypertension, heart disease, impaired cognitive function, and even mental health problems. Additionally, diesel exhaust from trucks contains toxic substances that contribute to respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer risk elevation, especially for children and pets.

1. We urge local authorities to enforce the current regulations prohibiting large trucks from using 20th St between Pico and Ocean Park.
