The Issue

I am writing this petition out of deep concern as someone who has lived and learned to thrive with mental health challenges, particularly Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). I know firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate life with mental health issues, and I am a testament to the fact that recovery and fulfilling life are possible. This is why I am alarmed by the new legislation that allows assisted suicide to individuals suffering from BPD or mental health conditions in general.

Allowing assisted suicide for those struggling with mental health issues sets a dangerous precedent. It undermines the value of life and the belief that people can recover or learn to cope with these conditions. Mental health disorders, including BPD, are often characterized by feelings of hopelessness which can distort one's perception and decision-making ability. It is during these vulnerable times that individuals desperately need support, understanding, and mental health care, not the option of assisted suicide.

We have seen time and time again that with proper therapy, medication, and support systems, many people living with BPD and other mental health disorders can lead happy and productive lives. To turn to assisted suicide as a solution fails to address the root of the problem, which is the lack of adequate mental health resources and comprehensive care for those in need. It is crucial that we invest in improving mental health services, providing better access to therapy, education, and creating robust support networks.

This fight is not only about individuals currently affected by this legislation; it is about future generations, our children, and all those who may face mental health issues in their lifetime. We must ask ourselves what message we are sending by permitting assisted suicide for mental health reasons - that life with these conditions is not worth living? This cannot be the precedent we set for our society.

I urge you to think of the vulnerable individuals who could be affected by this law. We must advocate for hope, healing, and life, even in the face of mental health challenges. Let us work together to stop this law and instead focus on fostering a culture of support and recovery.

Please sign this petition to oppose this law and protect the lives of those who deserve every chance to live and thrive despite their mental health struggles. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a future where mental health is met with compassion, not despair.
