We wanted to let you know that our CEO, Jennifer Nadel, will be live on BBC Radio 5 Live at 7:45am tomorrow (Wednesday).
Jennifer has been invited to speak about our campaign to stop the nastiness in politics.
She’ll be calling for an end to archaic traditions that allow MPs to jeer, boo, and bully. These behaviours would not be tolerated in any other place of work, yet they are disturbingly routine in our politics — particularly during Prime Minister’s Questions.
At a time when the political environment is increasingly volatile and trust in politics is at an all-time low, the sight of politicians shouting at each other sends the wrong message — that anything goes in politics.
Last week’s scenes in the House of Commons were a stark reminder of how far political discourse has fallen. What we witnessed was not robust debate — it was the personal humiliation of a politician already in tears, broadcast to millions across the country. Such behaviours not only erode public trust, but they also model a form of leadership that is adversarial, aggressive, and out of step with the values that a healthy democracy should uphold.
On the programme Jennifer will be explaining why Compassion in Politics is calling for fundamental reform — starting with scrapping PMQs in its current form and replacing it with a respectful, effective system of political accountability.
We’d love for you to tune in — and if the message resonates with you, please share it widely.
