We stand with our supporters Generation Rent and the 30+ charities who have written to the Home Secretary to warn that you cannot fine people out of homelessness.

Pushing people out of housing is not what a compassionate government should do.

The new Criminal Justic Bill, being pushed through by Home Secretary James Cleverly could see women, who are disproportionately likely to suffer violence and sexual abuse on the streets, penalised for seeking shelter and safety in well-lit doorways.

James Cleverly needs to drop cruel and unnecessary measures and focus on the real solutions including building more social housing. He needs to be a kind and compassionate Home Secretary.

As our supporter Layla Moran MP said to Sky News: "The government should take a compassionate approach to tackling homelessness, instead of stigmatising and criminalising rough sleepers."

More than 40 Conservative MPs are expected to rebel against parts of the Criminal Justice Bill, which would allow the police to fine innocent “nuisance” rough sleepers in need

Former ministers Sir Iain Duncan Smith and Damian Green are among 10 Tories who have signed a series of amendments to the Bill aimed at countering the drive to criminalise rough sleeping.

If we are going to stop this law, we need your help.

Please tweet to your MP about this, more importantly also consider chipping into this campaign. Together we will make renting compassionate.
