A number of pigeons nest at the Palace Gardens Shopping Centre in Enfield Town where I work. It has come to my attention that every month the owners of the centre hire pest control to shoot the innocent birds with pellet guns, killing them and taking them away in bags. With the adult pigeons killed, the baby pigeons are left alone, unable to fend for themselves, they very likely die. You can sometimes hear them crying out for their parents in the centre.

I am tired of the arrogance of man whom think they can end life as they please. Their reasoning is that they carry germs, but explain to me why pigeons at public parks aren’t killed then? People get close to them and even feed them without harm. It is a weak argument delivered by remorseless people that dislike the inconvenience and do not think of practical, honourable solutions.

A far more effective solution is thus; capture the birds and relocate them to a local park. Then close of the sections above the stores in the centre where they nest. Pigeons are very good navigators and may well find their way back to town, but without the sections to nest in the shopping centre, their presence will decrease and there will be no further need to kill these creatures. If we can get enough signatures it may convince the owners to consider this simple solution.
