Stop the docks Save Stevenson CreekClearwater, FL, United States
Feb 24, 2025

Hello Petitioner

Thank you for signing our Petition to Save the Stevenson Creek!  We are at a critical stage and need YOU to take urgent action. Why?

The permit is now under review by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection agency. It must meet the following criteria.

The project must have …“demonstrable environmental, social, and economic benefits which would accrue to the public at large as a result of a proposed action, and which would clearly exceed all demonstrable environmental, social, and economic costs of the proposed action…”

Not only will this multi-boat commercial dock set the precedent to build more that are an impending event if passed, they are for the sole use of the PRIVATE owners at the cost of irreversible damage to the environment and wildlife.    The public wishes to safeguard this pristine estuary for the wildlife it hosts and for future generations to enjoy. Its the time for you to directly address the agency who could stop the permit.

PLEASE WRITE these public officials TODAY, (sample letter follows) and if you have questions or wish to participate further, please contact SherDayTampa@gmail.com.

Dear __________

Please record my opposition and prohibit the issuance of ERP Permit: 45094.001 (App: 889874). Clearly these docks are for a few  PRIVATE individuals, and are not for the public at large which, on that note alone, contradicts your criteria. Additionally, they have severe environmental, social and economic costs, with no demonstrable BENEFITS for the public.

These commercial docks set the precedence to  reverse the $100M in taxpayer dollars already spent to rehabilitate this Creek, with the sole objective of accommodating a few private dock owners.  Furthermore, the “compensation” proposed by the applicant is to donate a negligible amount to the Aquatic Preserve Society (a nonprofit managed by the DEP) and to post one manatee sign.  This is insignificant with respect to the real environmental cost of these commercial docks.  Any stated attempts by the applicant to control boat sizes/drafts cannot be enforced, all at the risk of the wildlife.

This Creek is a designated Aquatic Preserve & under consideration as a manatee zone, directly adjacent to an existing manatee zone.  DENY THIS PERMIT!

Sincerely,
