The Issue

In the rolling fields and lush landscapes of Missouri and Oregon County, we are blessed with invaluable fresh water resources that are vital for our survival. But there's a crisis looming over our cherished land - a crisis that threatens our wildlife, environment, and even our daily lives. Imagine waking up one day to find our rivers dry, our plants struggling to survive, and our wildlife without a drop of water to drink. This horrifying scenario isn't a distant dystopian future; it's a real possibility if we allow data centers to continue exploiting our fresh water sources. This issue is personal to me because purified water doesn't sustain life like natural fresh water does. Our ecosystems rely on this precious gift of nature, and so do we. Allowing these data centers to deplete and contaminate our water threatens the very fabric of our existence here in Missouri.

The harsh truth is, these data centers are strategically designed to be cost-efficient. They have the capacity to operate on renewable energy and employ technologies that do not rely on excessive fresh water consumption. Yet, they choose to tap into our aquifers, knowing our fresh water is finite. This exploitation might save corporations money in the short term but will cost us dearly in the long run. Our environment cannot recover from such negligence. Our local flora and fauna will suffer, and ultimately, our communities will face severe water shortages.

Missouri's natural resources are not a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder. We implore the government to halt any agreements that allow our fresh water to be diverted for corporate use without stringent regulations and measures in place that prioritize sustainability and ecological balance. Technologies exist that can enable such companies to build and operate without depleting our life-saving resources.

We need your support to ensure that our pristine waters are preserved for future generations and that the greed of today does not destroy the promise of tomorrow. We call upon local and state authorities to take immediate action to protect and safeguard our natural water sources. Tell them that clean water is a basic human right and should not be sacrificed for profit.

By signing this petition, you are making a stand for the preservation of Missouri's environmental integrity and the wellbeing of its inhabitants. Your signature is a voice, a demand for sustainable development, and a promise to protect our fragile ecosystem. Please sign this petition and help us safeguard the future of our community and our planet.
