The Issue

Growing up in our community, the mill has always been a symbol of our heritage and identity. For generations, it stood not just as a landmark but as a testament to our shared history and way of life. Now, there are plans to convert this cherished mill into a data center, a move that could irreparably alter the character and quality of life in our area.

The mill's transformation into a data center brings with it several serious concerns. One pressing issue is the potential impact on our water quality. Data centers require massive amounts of water for cooling purposes, which could significantly deplete local water resources. This could lead to water scarcity, affecting not just households but also local agriculture and wildlife that depend on clean, accessible water.

Moreover, the operation of a data center can lead to considerable noise pollution. The constant hum and mechanical noise from cooling systems and machinery could disrupt the peaceful environment we've come to cherish in our community. Such noise can negatively impact both human and animal residents, leading to increased stress and health issues over time.

From an environmental standpoint, the carbon footprint of a data center is immense. These centers consume vast amounts of electricity, much of which is generated from non-renewable sources. This will contribute to higher carbon emissions and exacerbate climate change, all while we strive to move towards more sustainable and eco-friendly practices as a community.

Preserving our community's history and environment should take precedence. By exploring alternative locations for the data center or considering other uses for the mill, we can protect our resources and heritage. We should prioritize projects that enhance local life without sacrificing our natural and historical treasures.

Join me in taking a stand to protect our community's identity, health, and sustainability. Sign this petition to urge local authorities to reconsider converting our beloved mill into a data center. Together, we can ensure our community remains a great place to live for current and future generations.
