The Issue

Growing up, I had the privilege of attending Pegram Elementary, a school that not only influenced my academic development but also provided a strong sense of community and belonging. Now, years later, my own children walk the same halls I did, learning from some of the same dedicated teachers who played an integral role in shaping my life. Many of my friends have their children enrolled here as well, and we've seen firsthand how this school nurtures young minds with more than just academics—it fosters a real sense of family.

However, the recent proposal to merge Pegram Elementary with Kingston Springs Elementary threatens to dismantle the fabric of our community. Not only is this merger a logistical nightmare, it poses a significant disruption to the students, staff, and families who deeply rely on the support and familiarity that only comes from a close-knit environment.

The essence of a school extends beyond its books and walls—it resides in the trust and relationships built among the students and educators who inhabit them. If Pegram Elementary is merged with Kingston Springs, we risk losing priceless connections and the personalized teaching methods that have evolved over decades. This shift would depersonalize education for our children, placing them in larger classes with less individualized attention.

The staff at Pegram have consistently gone above and beyond to build relationships that endure beyond the school years, supporting our kids' academic journeys and personal growth in ways that a larger institution simply can't replicate. Studies show that smaller class sizes provide more effective learning environments and foster student success (Schanzenbach, 2014; Finn & Achilles, 1999). By merging these schools, we would inadvertently strip away these benefits, hindering our children's potential in crucial years of their education.

Moreover, the ripple effects of this merger would extend beyond students to affect teachers and parents, disrupting routines and dismantling existing support systems that are vital for a harmonious community. Change of this magnitude can also have unintended financial ramifications, potentially leading to inefficiencies rather than savings as anticipated.

We need to stand together to ensure our children continue to receive the level of education and care they deserve and that their school remains a beacon of community spirit. We urge the relevant authorities and stakeholders to reconsider this merger and to seek alternative solutions that align better with the needs and best interests of our families.

Please join me in preserving the legacy of Pegram Elementary by signing this petition. Together, we can send a strong message that our children's education and well-being must be prioritized over administrative consolidation. Let's work towards maintaining the schools our children need and deserve.
