One of the biggest deforestation is happening right now in Indonesia. They’re cutting down 3,15 million hectares of old forests.

Old trees are a necessity since they store massive amounts of carbon, support rare biodiversity & regulate water cycles. They are being cut down for palm oil and sugarcane plantations, mainly used for the make of soap, cookies, candy and sauces. 

Locals have reported an increasing in flooding & also drink water is being polluted by the mud and other chemicals. Not only humans suffer. The animals that live there lose their homes too and are under severe stress. With each passing day, more land is being cleared. Countless species of their natural habitats are threatened.

The consequences of this deforestation extend far beyond Papua. The destruction of these forests contributes significantly to global carbon emissions, exacerbating climate change and affecting weather patterns worldwide. As they disappear, we lose nature’s irreplaceable buffer against climate change and a resource that could provide crucial medicinal and scientific breakthroughs.
