UPDATE:

Data Center Ordinance Update

Zoning changed to M1 conditional use. 

M1 is light industrial. Data Centers belong in heavy industry zoning. 

The new proposed area looks to be somewhere on Papermill Road near the Minisink soccer field.

Data Center Criteria Update

The Township is dedicating this page to the development of an update to the Zoning Ordinance criteria on the Data Center, Data Center Accessory Use, Disaster Recovery Facility use(s) to encourage community input and feedback. This page will serve as the primary source of public documents utilized in the ordinance discussions.

The hearing on the advertised ordinance, which updated the Smithfield Township Code of Ordinances, took place on October 22, 2025, and it passed. Thank you to everyone who participated.

The hearing on the advertised ordinance amending a previously adopted ordinance within the Smithfield Township Code of Ordinances will take place on April 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
