This is not a Hollywood horror film.  This is a real life slaughter of pilot whales - adults and calves are slashed and stabbed. The sound of the whales screaming in agony mixes with the giggles of local children watching the men in their frenzied furor.  It is the depth of human depravity and we're calling for it to end.  

This is a grindadrap (grind) in the Faroe Islands (located half way beween Scotland and Iceland.  They sit under external sovereignity of Denmark.

Every summer, when a pod of these intelligent,sentient beings that travel in social pods is sighted, the alarm is sounded, the jetskis and boats head out to sea and herd them into a cove where they're murdered in the most unimaginably horrific manner.  

Faroese men with lances, ropes and knives descend upon the frightened pod to begin their bloody slaughter - slashing and stabbing - plunging lances down the blowholes of screaming pilot whales as they writhe and convulse in abject agony on the beach.

Faroese parents bring their children - immune to this horror gawking and giggling at the scene whilst a pilot whale calf struggles to survive beside the viciously mutilated body of its mother.  Just hours prior, this calf and the entire pod was swimming free in the ocean - totally unaware of the fate that lay ahead. 

As the mass slaughter and madness continues, the entire bay turns to red with the blood spilling from the victims of the Grind.   The bodies dragged onto the shore continue to bleed - their blood mixed with milk spilling from the bodies of the mothers - their calves lying mutilited beside them.

As the watching crowd descends down from the cliffs to the murder scene, children sit atop the dead bodies.  Foetuses are pulled slashed bellies.  This is the Faore Islands where the head of a decapitated pilot whale is impaled on an anchor in public. 

This is not tradition as they murderers will claim. Their ancestors didnt have jet skis and power boats to drive the pod to shore.  They relied on the meat for food - today's Faroese have options and many of the bodies  are simply dumped - a tragic waste.  

The murderers have no right to this perverse gratification.  This psychopathic barbarity, the Grindadrap must come to an end.    Their lust for blood is so intense they recently murdered over 80 pilot whales in full view of horrified passengers aboard an Ambassador Cruise Line ship docked in the harbour. 

Over 600 innocent animals have been slashed and stabbed to death already this northern summer alone. 

We say enough is enough! 

As a country under the external sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark, the Captain Paul Watson Foundation Australia, calls upon the Danish Royal Family including fellow ex Australian, Princess Mary to speak out and call for an end to this atrocity.   We call on Ambassador Cruise Lines to cease supporting a country capable of this continual barbarity and stop its ships from visiting.  

We do acknowledge there are some good people in the Faroes who object to and abhor the murderous rampage of their countrymen and their bravery in speaking out is  applauded.
