The Issue

In the heart of our community, Ootischenia, BC, we find ourselves grappling with a shocking and heartbreaking governmental decision. The plan involves the mass killing of birds on a local farm, only to dispose of them in the Castlegar dump. As someone deeply rooted in the community, I am disheartened and outraged by such actions being taken without our consent or consultation. We are a community that values every life, no matter how small, and we are appalled by the government's disregard for the natural world and the voices of its citizens.

The execution of this plan is not only inhumane but also environmentally damaging. It raises significant concerns over wildlife conservation, biodiversity, and the environmental health of our region. The indiscriminate killing and dumping of these birds could create ecological imbalance, attract disease, and further impact the fragile ecosystem we all depend on.

Alternatives exist. We urge our government to explore non-lethal methods such as relocation, sanctuary creation, or investing in habitat conservation programs. These birds deserve a chance at life, and we as a community deserve to have our voices heard in the decision-making process.

The path forward should be marked by compassion, ecological responsibility, and community involvement. We call upon local government officials, environmental agencies, and wildlife conservationists to halt this massacre and to collaboratively devise a humane and sustainable plan.

Let's stand together for the birds who do not have a voice of their own. Let's protect our community’s natural heritage and demand accountability from those we elect to act in our best interest.

Sign this petition to tell our government that this senseless killing is unacceptable and that we demand a humane approach to wildlife management in Ootischenia. Your support can make a difference in preserving our community’s values and the lives of countless innocent birds.
