Kanawha County Schools has recently voted to close East Bank Middle School, having our students absorbed into DuPont Middle School!  With this closing, large numbers of our kids will have excessive bus rides, many from over an hour, up to an hour & a half plus.  According to WV State Law a one way bus ride for Middle School Students should not exceed 45 minutes.  In the Kanawha County School’s Proposal of Closing, the transportation times were grossly misrepresented. When questioned about the proposed time frames, it was stated that they used “GPS” versus their own computerized bus schedules!  [For example 2 actual future routes of over 1 1/2 hours, KCS proposed them at a mere 32 mins]

When presented with the question regarding the 45 minute limit in WV State Law, the KCS Superintendent very casually responded, “You can get a waiver for that”!

With a viable option already in place (EBMS) , coupled with multiple inaccuracies & misrepresentations in their proposal we need to stand up against this closing & these waivers! 

Our kids are worth more than a “waiver”!
