448 Citizens Are Asking Hampton: Please Deny Any Data Center Permits

Dear Mayor and Members of the Hampton City Council, I am writing to you regarding the growing opposition to data centers in our communities and to ask you to listen carefully to what the citizens of Lovejoy, Hampton, and Clayton County are saying. The message from our community has been loud and clear: we do not want data centers in our communities. Our petition opposing the proposed Lovejoy data center has now reached 448 signatures, and it continues to grow every day. I am attaching the petition so that you can see directly the concerns being expressed by citizens. We understand that the City of Hampton took action in January by adopting a moratorium related to data centers and annexations. We appreciate that the city recognized the need to pause and evaluate these issues. However, a moratorium is temporary. We are asking the Mayor and City Council to take the next step and protect our community by denying any permits, applications, zoning requests, or other approvals that would allow a data center to be developed in Hampton. We are also respectfully asking you to not annex any additional land into the City of Hampton for the purpose of accommodating or facilitating a data center. The citizens of Lovejoy, Hampton, and Clayton County have shown that they are paying attention. We have watched what has happened with the proposed Lovejoy data center, and we do not want to see another community face the same battle. This is not simply about one development project. It is about protecting our communities, our quality of life, our infrastructure, our water resources, our environment, and our property values. The community is watching. We are paying attention to every decision that is made regarding data centers and annexations, and we will hold our elected officials accountable at the polls. We respectfully ask the Mayor and City Council to listen to the 448 citizens who have already signed this petition, as well as the many more who are joining us every day. Please stand with the citizens of Hampton, Lovejoy, and Clayton County. Deny any data-center permits and do not use annexation to facilitate data-center development in Hampton.
