A Victory for Our Community — But Our Work Isn't Done

Thank you to everyone who has signed, shared, attended meetings, and spoken up throughout this process. Your voices made a difference. Last night, the Mayor of Lovejoy called a special City Council meeting to accept the rescission of the Special Administrative Permit for the proposed data center and to consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to accept that rescission on behalf of the City. A representative from Stillwater Development attended the meeting and stated that the community had been heard. They announced that they will not move forward with their plans to develop a data center at this location. This is an important victory for our community, and it demonstrates what can happen when residents come together with a common purpose. Every signature, every email, every conversation, every meeting attended, and every voice raised helped make this moment possible. While we are grateful for this outcome, our work is not yet complete. We continue to call on the Mayor and City Council to take the next step by adopting a moratorium on new data center proposals and amending the City's ordinances so that data centers are not permitted in our community. We believe permanent protections are necessary to provide certainty for residents and to ensure this issue does not return in the future.
