Stop the loudness wars and release High Definition Music Downloads

Summary (Full letter in box below)

Music gives many people enjoyment, but the dynamically compressed albums available today are short changing people of this enjoyment.

As music lovers we are fed up with the high level of dynamic compression used on albums available today and would like to see the immediate introduction of “HD / Unlimited” music, where the recording has not been dynamically compressed and has been optimised for sound quality.

We believe that this is the way forward to reintroduce people to music the way it’s meant to sound. The technology is there, I’m sure the demand is there, Record Labels make it happen!

Re: Online Petition - “Stop the Loudness Wars and Release High Definition Downloads”

Dear (Name),

We, the signatories are writing to inform you of our complete and utter dissatisfaction with the sound quality of the majority of music releases issued today.

The high level of dynamic compression used in recordings is having a detrimental effect on the quality of music and people’s enjoyment of it. Many find that the current offerings have made music unenjoyable and unlistenable, with some people choosing not to purchase new music releases altogether.

As music lovers we want to obtain the highest possible quality available and would like to see the immediate introduction of “HD / Unlimited” music, where the recording has not been dynamically compressed and has been optimised for sound quality. We would like to see the introduction of this product in both physical form and as a legal download.

We believe that the introduction of “HD / Unlimited” music would be beneficial to all parties - the music lover would be reconnected with the music and experience greater enjoyment and you as a record label / retailer would benefit from increased sales in a market sector that will no doubt experience significant growth. In these austere economic times can you really afford to ignore any market sector?

We urge you as both a company and as an industry to work together and introduce “HD / Unlimited” music as a matter of urgency and look forward to purchasing this material as soon as it becomes readily available.
