Stop the Split

Our neighborhoods are disappearing through overdevelopment.

Developers are purchasing single lots in family neighborhoods, with the intent to divide the land into multiple parcels.  Beautiful mature trees are chopped down to make way for characterless homes, that are incompatible with the rest of the community. 

This is happening all over Miami.

You can help stop yet another lot split at 4055 Poinciana Avenue in Coconut Grove by signing this petition. 

The City Planning Department denied the warrant to split the lot on Poinciana into three small lots TWICE, because it did not satisfy multiple criteria established by the Miami 21 Code and the NCD-3 overlay (Neighborhood Conservation District). 

However, in a 5-4 split vote, the Planning Board chose to ignore the city’s decision and staff recommendation, in favor of the developer. This decision would allow him to build 3 houses, where a single family home stood.

More than 40 residents from all over Miami showed up at City Hall to voice their opposition to the lot being split.  People are sick and tired of their neighborhoods being decimated.

This decision is being appealed in front of the Miami City Commission in an effort to overturn the Planning Zoning and Appeals Board decision, and prevent the split.

We need your support.  Please say NO to ruining neighborhoods.

Family neighborhoods don’t need to be carved up; they need to be preserved.
