STOP THE LOT has ordered more sign and currently has approximately 14 yard signs available for anyone interested in supporting the cause. We'd love to see signs displayed all along Main Street and Johnson Street. If you'd like a sign for your yard, please email STOPTHELOT25@gmail.com.
Recently, the Village Council posted a list of FAQs on their Facebook page. This move suggests they are still pushing forward with the project despite significant community opposition and not truly listening to residents' voices and concerns. While the FAQs mention that the parking lot may be reduced in size, no details are confirmed. If so many residents are opposed that the Council felt compelled to post FAQs due to strong public interest, why not withdraw the DNR grant application altogether and pursue a project that better reflects the needs and character of our community?
Of the people, by the people, for the people… The people have spoken.
On a Positive Note!
It's important to note that the land in question is owned by Caledonia Schools, and the final decision rests with the School Board. We are incredibly grateful for how open and responsive the Board has been to our concerns. While the outcome of the DNR grant and the parking lot proposal is still uncertain, we remain hopeful that the School Board will vote to protect this space, preserve the natural trailhead, and oppose the construction of an unnecessary parking lot. The School Board wants to hear from you!
It's not too late to voice your opposition if you have not done so already. The Council does not like our petition and minimizes the volume of signatures. At the last council meeting they were questioning signatures and suggesting that we had lots of friends... Anyone that knows us, knows we keep to ourselves, so not true! The majority of the signatures came from Caledonia residents and surrounding areas. Most are residents and/or trail users. Ask your neighbors and friends to support! Let's keep the momentum and STOP THE LOT!!

Attend the Next Caledonia School Board Meetings
Speak Out! This lot stops at the School Board!! This is Caledonia School owned land and Kent County has an easement on the property at the trailhead. How can the School lease the land to the Village if there is already an easement in perpetuity, unless there’s an agreement? There is no documentation of change in agreement with the County.
- Next Meeting: Monday, July 28th @ 6:00 PM – Caledonia High School – 9050 Kraft Ave
- Sign in to speak during Public Comment before the meeting starts. Let the board know: We oppose the parking lot at Kinsey & Main.
