The Issue

STOP THE LONE PINE CANYON QUARRY

We, the undersigned, oppose the proposed Lone Pine Canyon Road Quarry project (MRP-2025-00002) in San Bernardino County.

This project would introduce large-scale industrial mining into a sensitive and ecologically valuable area near Wrightwood, CA impacting approximately 285 acres and operating for up to 148 years.

We are deeply concerned about:

• Increased wildfire risk in a high fire danger zone
Impacts to a critical evacuation route (Lone Pine Canyon Road)
Proximity to the San Andreas Fault and associated safety risks
Destruction of native habitat and wildlife corridors
Impacts to federally protected species, including golden eagles, which are known to inhabit and hunt in this region. Blasting, noise, and habitat disruption may disturb nesting and foraging behavior, raising serious environmental concerns
Air pollution, dust, noise, and heavy truck traffic
Long-term environmental damage to a natural and scenic canyon

Direct impacts to residents, including increased noise, vibration from blasting, degraded air quality, and loss of rural quality of life
Health impacts to children and families, who are especially vulnerable to dust, particulate matter, and long-term air pollution exposure
Safety concerns for families, including increased truck traffic on local roads and potential delays or hazards during emergency evacuations

This project is not a small or temporary operation—it is a multi-generational industrial extraction project that will permanently alter the landscape and impact local residents for generations.

We call on San Bernardino County to:

REJECT the Mitigated Negative Declaration
REQUIRE a full Environmental Impact Report (EIR)
ENSURE full transparency and community involvement

Lone Pine Canyon is a unique and irreplaceable natural area. Lone Pine Canyon must be protected for its diverse and unique habitat, a home for countless wildlife species.  This canyon must be preserved for current and future generations—including the families, children, and especially wildlife that depend on it for their survival.
