Stop the Lodi High Schedule Change

Stop the Lodi High Schedule Change

The Issue

Beginning in the Lodi High school year of 2025-2026, there will be scheduling changes including adding a seventh period to our school days or a block schedule, which separates all of Lodi High's students' classes by certain days of the week. (e.g. (For a freshman's classes as an example) Monday - Biology of the Living Earth CP & English 9 CP, and Tuesday - Math 1 CP & Physical Education 1) This is opposed to keeping the regular 6 period school day for Lodi High's students with all of their chosen or assigned classes in one day for the whole week.

This affects Lodi High's students in a negative way. An extra period would add an extra class, which in return adds more homework/classwork, which could therefore add stress onto the students who have difficult classes or classes with more homework than others. This added stress can potentially lead to mental illnesses such as anxiety or depression. A block schedule may also have its downsides as well. The problem with a block schedule is that you spend more time in your classes that are assigned for that day. While this may be beneficial to teachers and staff, this is disadvantageous towards students. This may be beneficial towards teachers because they have more time to teach a topic or subject to a student because of their extended period time instead of spreading the topics or subjects throughout various lessons. The downside to this is that students may not be able to retain all of the information taught to them within the oversized period as opposed to a shorter one.

You have the choice to either sign this and keep our current schedule, or let the school board potentially put end to our current schedule and make a completely new one that could potentially add even more stress from schoolwork and homework. The choice is up to you and your peers.
