The Issue

I am a band and choir student in Lander, WY, who is fighting for our music program. Parents of LVHS and PHS have been very upset with how the band (and music program in general) have been treated. As of 2025, the state of Wyoming is being sued for its public-school funding model.  A judge in Laramie County has ruled that the state has been unconstitutionally underfunding the K-12 public schools. This hits the music program hard, as it's already struggling with funding. In Lander specifically, both music program halves (choir and band) at the middle school and high school have been being taught by 2 teachers. These 2 teachers start at one school, drive between the two during their lunch break, and teach at the other. Students in these classes have noticed the stress it puts on these teachers. Most parents of these students attempted to bring this up to the school board, and the school boards solution was to limit the number of kids who do music. This program has been built up from nothing by our wonderful teachers, and everyone would love to see this program grow. I am here to make sure it keeps growing!
