The Issue

The UN Charter begins with the words:

“We the Peoples of the United Nations…”

It sounds noble.

But it is not true.

The UN is not an organization of the people. It is a closed club of states, governments, and regimes. Democracies sit at the same table as dictatorships. Free nations sit beside oppressors. Regimes that imprison, torture, censor, and kill their own citizens are still given a seat, a voice, and legitimacy.

If the UN truly spoke for the people, illegitimate regimes would not be allowed to hide behind membership.

If the UN truly stood for human dignity, tyrants would not be able to use the organization as a diplomatic shield.

If the UN truly meant “the peoples”, it would not treat populations as details and states as sacred.

That is why we demand that the UN change the first line of its Charter.

Not because words alone create justice. But because the lie must be removed.

The UN should no longer be allowed to speak in the name of the people while, in practice, protecting regimes, governments, and state power.

A more honest wording would be:

“We the Member States of the United Nations…”

At least that would be true.

The people of Iran are not represented by the Islamic Republic.

The people of North Korea are not represented by the Kim regime.

The people of Russia are not represented by the Kremlin’s repression.

The people of China are not freely represented by the Chinese Communist Party.

Yet these regimes are given a place in the UN system, as if they speak on behalf of their people.

They do not.

They speak on behalf of power.

The UN must choose.

Either it begins to act according to the words “We the Peoples”.

Or it must stop using them.

We therefore demand that the United Nations change the first line of its Charter so that it reflects reality:

The UN is not the voice of the people.

The UN is a club of states.

And as long as tyrants sit at the table, the UN has no right to speak in the name of the people.

By signing this petition, you refuse to let dictatorships speak in your name.

You refuse to let the UN hide behind the words “We the Peoples” while regimes use the same institution to gain legitimacy.
