STOP THE LAUNDRY MOVE

As residents of the intersection and/or students of Carnegie Mellon University, we are writing to inform you that we oppose the moving of the intersection laundry from Margret Morrison to the basement of Hamerschlag.
We were not informed of this decision when choosing housing, although according to Louis McCauley (Director of Facilities-Housing & Dining) the move was planned before housing selection for the 2012 Fall Semester began. There was also no discussion among the residents as to whether they wanted to move the laundry, and with housing prices upwards of $4,000 a semester we deserve a voice in the decision.
We find the facilities at Hamerschlag to be unsatisfactory, with 2 out of 5 washers broken and 3 out of 6 dryers not working. In addition, the area is poorly lit at night and female residents have expressed fear about going to an all-male dorm late at night to do laundry.
For these reasons and more, we request you put an immediate and permanent halt to the plans to move the laundry location and give us back our facilities. We strongly disagree this move will ‘greatly benefit all hill area residents’ as stated in the August 31st, 2012 email sent by Louis McCauley.
