It’s hard to ignore the hypocrisy.
The Reform UK Society has spent the past few days accusing this campaign of being “anti-democratic” - while at the same time, their own members have been caught removing our posters from campus walls.
You can’t call for “free speech” and then rip down posters just because you don’t like what they say.
This kind of behaviour is exactly what we mean when we talk about anti-democratic actions. It’s not democratic to silence peaceful, lawful protest. It’s not democratic to tear down the voices of students trying to speak out about their concerns. And it’s definitely not democratic to pretend you’re the victim while you actively try to shut others up.
What we’re doing next
We’re preparing to formally present evidence to LUSU and the University - not just about the posters, but about the wider conduct of the Reform UK Society’s leadership.
This includes:
- Inappropriate behaviour in university group chats
- Public social media posts promoting hateful or discriminatory views
- Targeted hostility toward LGBTQ+ and international students
- Actions that clearly undermine the university’s values of equality, dignity, and inclusion
We believe this pattern of behaviour raises serious concerns about whether this group should be allowed to operate under the Lancaster University name.
