Texas is facing a heartbreaking crisis: dogs are being dumped by the hundreds across our state, left to suffer on roadsides, fields, and city streets. Overcrowded shelters, lack of resources, and insufficient laws are creating a perfect storm where abandoned dogs are either left to die or are euthanized due to space constraints.

Despite evidence and videos of people dumping their pets, there is little accountability. We need real change.

We, the undersigned, call on Governor Greg Abbott and Texas lawmakers to:

Enforce stricter penalties for pet abandonment and animal cruelty.

Expand affordable and accessible spay/neuter programs statewide.

Increase funding and support for shelters, rescues, and animal control.

Launch a public education campaign on responsible pet ownership.

Promote adoption and foster programs to reduce shelter overcrowding.

This is not just an animal issue – it’s a public safety, public health, and moral issue. Texas can and must do better.
