People have questioned what can be done—and the andwer is a lot. Ron Nirenberg can make a major impact at policy level and Shannon Sims can help drive this. Some cities have banned breeding dogs until shelter numbers are lower, have implemented feed programs to keep dogs in low income households, offered spay and neuter free, given rewards for people attending dog training programs, given incentives for rentals to allow dogs, an enthusiastic program recruiting fosters, more empty the shelter events, promote black cats and dogs, holding a senior day and more. Things can be done. One thing San Antonio Animal Services has is great PR: this could be used more appropriately to help the dogs, rather than deflect blame for the killing. A very large amount of healthy friendly dogs dogs were proposed for euthanasia today: with volunteers promoting dogs this number was halved but San Antonio Animal Services can do more. And…what happens to all these bodies?
