OXBOW LAKE SWANS IN WHITE LAKE, MICHIGAN ARE IN DANGER!
Jul 30, 2017 — Hi Everyone,
It would seem that people do not have enough stuff to worry about these days...
I was just informed today, 07/30/17, that there will be meeting with Township Supervisor Kowall at 7 pm Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at the White Lake Township offices in Oakland County, Michigan, to discuss the killing of mute swans on Oxbow Lake. If any of you are familiar with this lake, you would know that there have been swans on this lake for years. They must not be eating all the vegetation, because in the information I received, the lake association is also wanting to harvest the weeds on the lake because they have too many. Their complaint seems to be mainly about the waste from the geese and the swans. That there is potential for swimmers itch. Again, there have been lots of swans on this lake for years and to speculate about swimmers itch now is ridiculous. A few years back. many of the swans died in the winter. I know this because I was going on my lunch hour and after work to feed them and to pick up any dead ones that I saw. After a few of us continued to feed them, there were no more dead ones. At least 11 died that I know of. We have rescued many on this lake, and just about all of them that went to the vet, when an x-ray was done, had pellets in them. They were either buck shots or bb's. The people on this lake also like to shoot M80's at these birds. Again, more people that move to lakes and can not tolerate anything but their own possessions . Someone should probably start doing septic tests to see how much waste from those are going into the lakes. If you could please take some time tomorrow or Tuesday to call the White Lake Supervisor or email him and tell him not to allow the residents on Oxbow Lake to kill the swans. They are not harming anyone. They usually, from what I have noticed, stay on the M59 side of the lake. This is the part of the lake that has the weeds they want to eliminate.
