The Issue

As citizens of Brazoria County, we stand united against the use of our taxpayer dollars to build and operate a kill shelter in Lake Jackson.

Our elected officials have chosen to sever ties with the SPCA of Brazoria County — an organization that has worked tirelessly for decades to provide a No-Kill alternative. Instead, they are investing in a model that will euthanize healthy, adoptable pets simply because they run out of space.

This decision is not only inhumane but also a misuse of public trust and resources. Brazoria County deserves a shelter that reflects our community’s values of compassion, responsibility, and progress.

We Demand:

Immediate Halt to the funding and construction of the proposed kill shelter.

Redirection of Taxpayer Funds toward no-kill solutions, partnerships, and proven community-based programs.

Restoration of Humane Partnerships with organizations such as the SPCA of Brazoria County and other no-kill rescues.

Public Accountability & Transparency in all animal welfare decisions made by elected officials.

Why This Matters:

Every animal deserves a chance at life. A “kill shelter” model is outdated, unnecessary, and cruel. Brazoria County residents do not support killing as a solution when no-kill programs have already proven successful.

Together, we can stop this and create a future where compassion leads the way.

Sign this petition and share widely. Let’s show our leaders that Brazoria County demands better for its animals — and for its people.
