Basic Update

The City Planning Commission is deferring action on this permitting change until February 24th.   This means the public hearing previously scheduled for today (Feb 10th) at 1:30 has now been moved to February 24th.

Please email your opposition to CPC@nola.gov.  I do not know if your email will make it the City Planning Commission before 2/24, but it will be on the record for the City Council to review (when they make the final decision).

If you would be interested in being a part of an organized effort to stop the live music venue, please email me at toijeancarter@gmail.com.

I learned that these are some of the basic steps we can engage in to oppose the live music venue:

1) Attend CPC meeting and express opposition; CPC will then make a recommendation to City Council
2) Meet with our Council Members to express concerns/opposition
3) Attend the final council meet where they will vote to approve or deny the conditional use permit

Longer Update

In addition to those above, we can be reaching out to our neighbors to inform and engage them (and maybe make some friends along the way).

Right now, we are looking at 2 porch meetings this week in the 2300 block of Jena.  One Thursday evening before Muses at my neighbor, Gail's house. The other will be on Saturday morning, before Iris, at my house (times and addresses will be shared via email and messages, so please share them with us).  We will likely have flyers for people to pick up as well as opportunities to learn from each other about our experience with this development (and others), and will begin assigning some different tasks to people (printing, canvassing, City Council outreach, etc).

If anyone knows if either of the old Freret neighborhood associations or their leadership are still active (there were 2 when we moved here in 2012), please let me know and I will work to engage them in the process.

Also, as an aside, they are erecting a parade viewing grandstand in front of the church.  It takes up the public sidewalk, the public parking, and the bike lane.  My concerns are for the visibility of traffic pulling out at LaSalle and for the use of public space for private business during Mardi Gras parades. Many of our neighbors have historically used this space during Mardi Gras. I have reached out to the city to ask if this is legal and permitted.

Thank you everyone
